After Game Six of the 1947 World Series, my Dad, Frank Shea, told me that Bucky Harris held a meeting and told the players that the team needed someone to pitch Game Seven.  No one spoke up so my Dad volunteered even though he had pitched a complete game just one day earlier to win Game Five.  Larry McPhail, the General Manager of the team, told Dad that he would get a $1,000 bonus for volunteering to pitch on such short rest.  Dad never got the bonus.
